“The Calmness He Has…”: Cameron Green Doffs Hat To ‘Captain’ Rohit Sharma | Cricket News

Australia all-rounder Cameron Green hopes to bring the calmness of Rohit Sharma into his game, having spent a quality time with the India captain in the Mumbai Indians dugout in IPL this year. Green, with 452 runs and six wickets, played a key role in MI’s campaign this season under Rohit’s captaincy, even though the five-time champions were eventually knocked out in Qualifier 2.

“The calmness he (Rohit) has out in the middle is so evident,” Green told ICC ahead of the World Test Championship Final against India at The Oval, starting June 7.

“He’s obviously been there and done that for 10 years. To be out there with him and just talk through a situation was awesome.

“My role was trying to be aggressive and then he obviously showed ways to go about it, whether it was attacking spin, attacking pace, kind of picking your bowler in a way,” the 24-year-old added.

Green joined the Australia side late and made his first appearance at training session on Thursday.

While the Mumbai teammates will now be WTC Final foes, Green can turn to what he learnt from the India skipper throughout the IPL and during their crucial century partnership against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final IPL league game when they meet in the red-ball showdown.

Gearing up for the marquee clash, Green believes in-form Virat Kohli is definitely going to a big threat.

“Virat Kohli. I think he always tries to be the man to stand up in big moments,” he said.

“A World Test Championship is obviously a massive moment, so I look forward to that.” Green feels there won’t be any problem for him to switch gears from T20 format to Test cricket.

“There is nothing like Test cricket when you’re kind of out in the middle,” he said.

“Obviously your nerves are running really high. I think the best players are the best ones that are able to handle that.”

WTC Final: Time to reformat for Team India | Cricket News – Times of India

The endless grind of franchise T20s & international cricket is now reality, meaning India’s players have to stay fit & adjust quickly, in just a few nets sessions, to play a Test in England on the heels of the IPL
At the start of the year, there was a lengthy meeting at a five-star hotel in Mumbai where some BCCI office-bearers huddled with India captain Rohit Sharma, who was present virtually, head coach Rahul Dravid and National Cricket Academy chairman VVS Laxman.
Their topic of discussion? ‘Workload management,’ a term bandied about by the board in the media to give an impression that something is being done about it.

The BCCI, it seemed, was a bit concerned with the workload of the players in the light of 2023 being the year of the World Test Championship final and the ICC ODI World Cup in India in October-November.
The after-effects of a long tournament like the IPL were visible and certainly played a part in India’s dismal campaigns in the 2009 T20 World Cup in England, and in the Test series two years later, which the team lost 0-4.
Another IPL later, we still have no solution to this problem. There was no sign of any player’s workload being managed during the IPL.

In fact, the last batch of the four Indian players supposed to be playing in the WTC final at Oval – Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane (CSK), Shubman Gill (GT) and Mohammed Shami (GT) – were locked in a tense IPL final, which stretched to three days, just a week before the Test.
Someone like Mumbai Indians coach and former South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher feels that a tournament like the IPL isn’t too much taxing because it involves playing just T20 cricket.
However, these are high-intensity T20 games in a short duration, with hardly any time left for the body to recover before the next match. Almost all the players carry some niggle or the other.

WTC Final: Acid test for Shubman Gill

At the start of the tournament, a report emerged that Rohit Sharma would rest for a few games, allowing Suryakumar Yadav to lead Mumbai Indians, but that happened in just one match. With MI’s qualification on the line, Rohit ended up playing almost every game in IPL 2023.
Not to forget, this was the first IPL post-Covid which involved the home and away format since 2019. It meant the players were on a usual ‘Bharat darshan’ trip, clocking thousands of air miles with its attendant hassles.
Add several matches which go deep into the night, and you have a situation where the body clock of the sleep-deprived cricketer goes for a six. A classic example was the reserve day of the IPL final, which saw the post-match ceremony finishing around 3.30 am!

That brings us to the million-dollar question. Will the players be fatigued going into the World Test Championship final against Australia?
“No, fatigue is definitely not a factor for international players. These players’ workloads have been monitored continuously. They should be raring to go and be able to give their best,” former India left-arm spinner and ex-national selector Sunil Joshi told TOI.
Barring Cheteshwar Pujara, who was enjoying another dream season for Sussex, all the other Indian cricketers were involved deeply in this rigmarole. In contrast, the Aussies, with a view to win their first WTC title and the Ashes, were more focused on getting as used to the English conditions as possible.

Being left unsold in the IPL auction in December proved to be a boon in disguise for someone like Steve Smith, who revelled as Pujara’s teammate in Sussex, getting some useful runs and game time in the UK.
The Aussie pace battery is also fit and raring to go. Skipper Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc decided to give the IPL a skip, while Josh Hazlewood played for RCB in just three games, in which he bowled 9 overs.
In a curious turn of events, the pacer flew back to Australia mid-way into the IPL due to an ‘injury,’ but was pronounced fit for WTC and the Ashes in a few days’ time.
The only Aussie players involved in both the IPL and the WTC final are allrounder Cameron Green, who had a stellar season for MI, and veteran opener David Warner, who captained a floundering Delhi Capitals campaign.

As they scamper to prepare for the big final while trying to put in a few meaningful practice sessions in the UK without even a warm-up game under their belt, India’s top cricketers are clearly in danger of being under-cooked for red-ball cricket.
Joshi, though feels that Team India “has had a good preparation”. “The fact that we are practicing at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club – a open ground where there’s a strong breeze – will help our cricketers immensely, as the ball will swing a lot there, and the bowlers will get an idea of bowling with and against the breeze.
“Form is important irrespective of format. If a pacer is hitting the hard lengths and a batsman is able to middle the ball, everything should be fine.”

Cameron Green Keeps On Fighting For MI Despite Having Injury. Watch | Cricket News

Gujarat Titans once again showed their dominance in the game as they thrashed Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023 on Friday and entered the summit clash of the tournament. The defending champions hammered the Rohit Sharma-led side by 62 runs in a high-scoring match, courtesy of the blistering 129-run knock from Shubman Gill. However, one moment in the match which won many hearts was the sportsmanship and the fighting spirit of MI batter Cameron Green, who kept on batting despite getting injured.

In the second over of MI’s chase, Hardik Pandya‘s pace delivery hit Green’s elbow and he was retired hurt at 4. Suryakumar Yadav came to the crease in his place and joined Rohit Sharma. Both the the batters tried to anchor the innings but the skipper had to depart after three balls. Later, Tilak Varma came to bat and was dismissed by Rashid Khan after playing a brilliant knock of 43 off 14 balls.

Seeing the wickets trembling down, Green came to bat again despite having an injury and scored 30 off 20 balls, before he was dismissed by Joshua Little. His knock was laced with two sixes and two boundaries.

Shubman Gill extended his sensational run with a third century of the season as Gujarat Titans crushed Mumbai Indians by 62 runs to storm into their second consecutive IPL final in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Gill’s 60-ball 129 (7x4s, 10x6s) fired Gujarat Titans to a huge 233/3 and in reply, Mumbai Indians, struck by a string of injuries, went down fighting in Qualifier 2 with Suryakumar Yadav (61) and Tilak Varma (43) providing the resistance.

Mohit Sharma, introduced in the 15th over, finished with figures of 2.2-0-10-5, triggering a collapse as MI collapsed from 149/4 in 14 overs to 171 all-out in 18.2 overs.

Shubman Gill: Sensational Shubman Gill slams third IPL century | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In a scintillating display of power hitting, Gujarat Titans‘ opener Shubman Gill smashed eight sixes on his way to a blazing century off just 49 balls during the IPL Qualifier 2 against Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
This was Gill’s third century in four innings this season, solidifying his position as one of the top performers in the tournament. With this incredible knock, he has now amassed over 800 runs in the 2023 edition of the IPL. Alongside the eight sixes, Gill also struck four boundaries in his whirlwind innings.

By achieving this feat, Gill joined an elite list, becoming only the second player after Michael Klinger to score three centuries in four T20 innings.
He reached his century with a single off Cameron Green in the 14th over, becoming the seventh player to score a hundred in IPL playoffs. Notably, at the age of 23 years and 260 days, he became the youngest player to achieve this milestone.

His century off 49 balls also places him among the fastest centuries in IPL playoffs, sharing the record with Wriddhiman Saha (2014 final) and Rajat Patidar (2022 Eliminator). Additionally, Gill’s three centuries in the season place him just behind Virat Kohli (4 centuries in 2016) and Jos Buttler (4 centuries in 2022) for the most hundreds in an IPL season.
Earlier in the match, Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first in the crucial playoff encounter.

CSK Do Not Want MI To Win Qualifier 2? Dwayne Bravo Says THIS Ahead IPL 2023 Final

MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) advanced to yet another Indian Premier League (IPL) Final with a dominant victory over Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Giants in Qualifier 1. This triumph was particularly significant as CSK had never defeated the Gujarat Titans in IPL history. The Yellow Brigade vanquished Gujarat, who had been the standout team during the league rounds, setting the stage for an exciting final showdown. Recognizing the formidable reputation of the five-time champion Mumbai Indians, CSK’s bowling coach Dwayne Bravo amusingly expressed his desire to avoid facing them in the IPL 2023 title match.

In response to the rivalry between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, Bravo humorously admitted his fear of Mumbai Indians. Although it was evident that he was joking, Bravo’s comment highlighted the exceptional strength of the Mumbai Indians. “No, I am scared of Mumbai (laughs). We don’t see it like that. All three other teams are dangerous teams. They are quality teams,” Bravo conveyed during an interview with Star Sports. He further expressed his personal preference, stating, “Yeah, I mean, honestly, my personal feeling, I don’t want Mumbai. My friend Pollard knows that. But, jokes aside, all the best to the other teams. We are looking forward to whoever we are going to face. I think we have got it.”

Following CSK’s victory against GT, Bravo immediately stormed onto the pitch to initiate the jubilant celebrations. His excitement continued even after the team reached the hotel, as he was spotted joyfully dancing in the elevator. If the Mumbai Indians make it to the final, Bravo would face his close friend Kieron Pollard, who serves as the team’s batting coach.

Not only do the Mumbai Indians possess a superior overall record, but they also hold the upper hand in IPL final clashes against the Super Kings. The two teams first met in the final in 2010, with Chennai emerging as the winners. Since then, the Mumbai Indians, led by Rohit Sharma, have triumphed over MS Dhoni’s side in the finals of 2013, 2015, and 2019, making it a one-sided contest thus far.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will have a chance to equal Mumbai Indians (MI)’s record of five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles on Sunday. MS Dhoni‘s CSK have won four titles so far, with Rohit Sharma‘s side ahead of them with five IPL crowns. CSK have already booked their place in the final of IPL 2023, where they will take on either MI or defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT). One of the biggest reasons behind CSK success has been the form of young Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who has thrived under MS Dhoni’s tutelage.

The 20-year-old, who played just two games last season, has picked up 17 wickets in 11 matches at an average of 19.24.

Ahead of the final on Sunday, Dhoni met with Pathirana’s family in Chennai. The youngster’s sister shared some pictures on her Instagram handle, and wrote a heartwarming post for Dhoni.

“Now we are sure that malli is in safe hands when thala said “You have nothing to worry about Matheesha,he’s always with me. These moments were even beyond what I had ever dreamt of,” Vishuka Pathirana, Matheesha’s sister, posted on Instagram.

As for the Qualifier 1, Chennai Super Kings tamed a tenacious Gujarat Giants by 15 runs on a sticky surface to enter their 10th IPL final here on Tuesday and extend their remarkable consistency in the tournament.

CSK did well to reach 172 for 7 on a slow pitch after Hardik Pandya opted to bowl.

Considering the conditions, it turned out to be much more than a competitive total as Gujarat Titans had a rare off day to end with 157 all out in 20 overs.

Akash Madhwal’s Priceless Reaction On Receiving Match Ball After Five-Wicket Haul In IPL 2023 Eliminator. Watch | Cricket News

During the dressing room celebrations, Akash Madhwal was presented with the match. ball© Instagram

Akash Madhwal engineered Mumbai Indians’ comprehensive 81-run win over Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2023 Eliminator on Wednesday, registering staggering figures of 5 for 5 in 3.3 overs. Madhwal, who was working as an engineer and playing tennis-ball cricket just a few years ago, has now entered the IPL history books with his figures against LSG. He now holds the record of the most economical figures in the history of IPL playoffs. During MI’s dressing room celebrations, Madhwal was presented with the match ball, and he was all smiles after receiving the memento.

With Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer both out injured, the previously unheralded Madhwal has grabbed his chance to shine.

He joined Mumbai last year as an injury replacement but remained confined to playing practice matches, before skipper Rohit Sharma introduced him to the big stage this season.

“The team has given me the responsibility so I am trying to do it,” Madhwal told reporters after his man-of-the-match performance.

“It’s not that I can take his (Bumrah’s) place, but whatever I can do in my capacity, I am doing.”

“Cricket is my passion and not a burden,” he said. “So I am enjoying cricket after leaving engineering and a job to follow my passion without having much at home.”

His feat on Wednesday came on the back of 4-37 against Sunrisers Hyderabad — eclipsed only by Mumbai big-buy Cameron Green‘s match-winning 100 not out.

MI will now take on Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on Friday, and the winner of the match will take on Chennai Super Kings in the final on Sunday.

LSG vs MI Highlights: Five-star Akash scripts Lucknow’s rout, Mumbai set up Qualifier 2 clash with Gujarat | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Uttarakhand-born uncapped Akash Madhwal wreaked havoc with his maiden IPL fifer as five-time champions Mumbai Indians blew away Lucknow Super Giants in a one-sided Eliminator clash in Chennai. Demolishing the Krunal Pandya side by a mammoth 81 runs, Mumbai registered the third biggest margin of win in the playoffs and booked their flights to Ahmedabad where they will face defending champions Gujarat Titans in the Qualifier 2 on Friday.
Chasing a stiff 183, Lucknow committed harakiri, losing their last 8 wickets for just 32 runs as for the second time in a row they crashed out of the competition with a defeat in the Eliminator.

The 29-year-old Madhwal was at his absolute best, claiming sensational figures of 5 for 5 in a dream spell as he also registered the best ever bowling figures for an uncapped player in the history of the tournament.

Mumbai Indians scored 182 for 8 in 20 overs and it seemed 15 short given explosive batting firepower of Lucknow but Madhwal’s incredible figures of 3.3-0-5-5 and some terrific ground fielding led by skipper Rohit Sharma saw Gautam Gambhir mentored side crumble for a paltry 101 in 16.3 overs.

There were three run-outs in what turned out to be a forgettable evening for the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise.

MI will now take on Titans in the second Qualifier to decide on Chennai Super Kings‘ opposition for the big final on Sunday.

If the first part of the evening belonged to a fiery Naveen ul Haq, whose 4 for 37 made everyone feel wary about MI’s final score, Madhwal reassured the faith that his skipper showed in him.
As It Happened
The delivery that clinched the final was one bowled to dangerous Nicholas Pooran (0) from round the wicket. He delivered it from slightly wide off the crease and it shaped inward before nipping away with a touch extra bounce forcing the southpaw to edge it to Ishan Kishan behind the stumps.

That literally broke LSG’s back and on either side of that wicket, Madhawal took four more to enhance his reputation having been a tennis ball cricketer till the age of 23.
Skipper Rohit, who has been pilloried for his fitness threw himself around and the relay throw to run Krishnappa Gowtham out was a fabulous effort.
Earlier, flamboyant Afghanistan seamer Naveen ul Haq picked up four wickets as Lucknow Super Giants managed to keep Mumbai Indians under-check at 182 for 8 in 20 overs.
Naveen, who has been under spotlight since his angry exchanges with Virat Kohli during a league game against RCB, was constantly booed by the Chepauk crowd but he did well enough to dismiss MI skipper Rohit (11 off 10 balls), batting mainstay Suryakumar Yadav (33 off 20 balls), last match’s hero Cameron Green (41 off 23 balls) and the ever dangerous Tilak Verma (26 off 22 balls).
Naveen getting Surya and Green in one over could well prove to be decisive as MI were atleast 15 short of par-score. MI also needed to replace Surya with Impact Player Nehal Wadhera, whose 23 off 12 balls took them past 180-run mark.
Wadhera smacked a six and hit two fours in the final over bowled by Yash Thakur (3 for 34) to boost MI’s score.
The impressive Moshin Khan (1-24) conceded only 6 runs in the penultimate over before Wadhera stepped up the pace in Thakur’s next, the final over of the innings.
Skipper Rohit (11, 10 balls, 1×4, 1×6), who began slowly, fell trying to up the pace, jumping out to hit Naveen only to find Ayush Badoni in the way in the fourth over.
Yash Thakur struck in the next over, getting Ishan Kishan (15, 12 balls, 3×4) to nick one to the keeper.
Suryakumar and Green gave some momentum to the innings with a 66-run third wicket partnership in a little over six overs.

Green, who hammered a ton in the final league match against SRH, slammed six boundaries and 1 six while Yadav hit two maximums and an equal number of fours in his 20-ball knock.
